This week, Amsterdam Denim Days officially kicks off. The ultimate denim festival is the annual mecca for professionals and denim heads from all over the globe – all united by the love of indigo. It’s the time of the year again that the city of Amsterdam will open its Blue doors.

Blueprint Festival, at Westergasfabriek on 21 & 22 April, is the place for fashion-forward fanatics of denim. The two-day denim event is packed with the best denim brands, seminars, exhibits, vintage treasure-hunting, music, food & drinks, workshops and much more to explore.

Here’s what to expect:



Customize your jeans & have fun with your denim buddies at the Denim Venue with: Advance Denim, Blue concept, BRAINCAN Studio, Calik Denim, Calvin Klein Jeans, Damn Good Soap Company, Denham the Jeanmaker, Heartwear, Hilfiger Denim, Jacka x I.T.V. Denim, Kings of Indigo, Lee, Le Mont St Michel, Nudie Jeans, ORTA ANADOLU, RADYGO, Scotch & Soda, Seven Senses Fabrics, Skulljan, The American Book Center, TinType Studio, and Wrangler by Peter Max and Kuyichi.

Stroll around the festival area on the Blue Avenue for burgers & beers: Butcher on Wheels, Walter White’s Espresso, Vuurbrood and Butch & Dutch Worst Truck. Don’t forget to visit the glass houses by WE Fashion, Summum Woman and Indigo Converse Chuck ’70 customization by Tenue de Nîmes.



Customizing is all over the place at the Work It workshop area of Blueprint Festival. Check out where you can tweak, dye, stitch, screen, print and buy. Work It is supported by Candiani Denim.

Jean School: For the ultimate in bespoke denim, the students of the local Jean School will be presenting a denim bag with fabric provided by Candiani Denim. Celebrated denim items will be available to buy, which you can customize according to your own needs with Jeanologia, Daphne Bleeker and Tegendraads.

Textielfabrique: Known for their Japanese dyeing, weaving, pattern and reparation workshops and classes, Textielfabrique uses the Sashiko, Shibori, Sakiori, Kazure and Saori techniques. All these different techniques will be demonstrated and you can test them yourself.

Feel like taking in a little denim culture? A series of exhibits and installations highlight denim artisans and innovators, cutting-edge technology, and a gallery of beautiful images of badass denim tribes.

Le Grand Bleu by Valentin Bakardjiev Artist and textile-magician Valentin Bakardjiev spices up the ancient Japanese dyeing technique Shibori with a dash of Delft Blue and creates meticulous handmade paper objects.

CODE presents Kristina Fender Expo Fender redefines the visual language of motorcycle culture. It all started when the images of an obscure event called Wheels and Waves started flooding around the web five years ago…

WGSN x AMFI A unique collaboration between Amsterdam Fashion Institute and WGSN. Second year students incorporated a denim outfit in one of their design projects: Atelier Clash.

Tonello presents Denim Gallery Tonello worked with 10 designers from all over the globe to create a gallery of 5-pocket jeans that represent what reality means to them. The designers submitted concepts to Tonello, which were interpreted directly onto the jeans using Tonello’s finishing technology to create intriguing and inspirational washes and finishes.

The City Center Program celebrates Amsterdam’s world-class denim stores with tailored product launches, presentations, exhibitions and special offers, geared towards the denim obsessive. For the ultimate denim shopping experience you can stroll around the Nine Streets and Kalverstraat area and go for the big blue catch. Seven days may not be enough time, but it’s a start.
